As said, I believe that anything story-wise that has to do with Demons or Angels has been severely overdone. It has lost its magic people, STOP DOING IT!!!

To many writers fall back on the same black vs white storyline and their story becomes shallow and... sorry to say, rather dull and predictable. For there to be a good story, you need to make sure you pay as much attention to your villains characterization as well as your hero.

And please, please! Do not use the Yoda theme! Hero finds ancient worrier who trains him to fight like in the old days. I mean, come on!

I do apologize for the rant, but I am working on a comic critique podcast, and 12 out of the 15 comics I have reviewed so far have fallen into these categories.

Not to fight with you or anything, but what alternative would you offer? If you take out the ancient warrior thing, you leave "magical power ups" which are sickening, "it's in your blood" stories, where the main character gets stronger by anger/injuries, or just risk having a weak protagonist.

I agree that angels versus demons is overdone, but not to the extent that vampires and werewolves are (Or wizards, or even aliens and robots).

I am not very sure what there could be to replace it. Ancient records, time travel, drinking the red bottle. You can try and create something unique. Just please think before using the old formulas, and use them sparingly.
